AQUARIUM – MUSEUM:
A stroll along the seaside pedestrian walk, in the City of Rhodes, leads to the northernmost edge of the island. This is where the Hydrobiological Station of Rhodes/Aquarium is located. Housed in a building of unique architectural style, the Aquarium is the ideal attraction for those wishing to get acquainted with the marine wealth of the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean sea.
The Aquarium has been fashioned in the form of an underwater sea cave. Sinuous corridors vested in limestone and artfully decorated with real sea-shells create a true underwater ambience, creating the feeling of dwelling under the sea.
RESEARCH – SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE – KNOW-HOW:
The mission of the Hydrobiological Station of Rhodes consists in the development and transmission of scientific knowledge of the marine environment and its protection.
As such, the services of this station regularly embark on:
Research into matters covering the entire range of oceanography for the Aegean and the Mediterranean Sea.
Studies into endangered species, such as sea-turtles, cetaceous sea animals as well as certain endemic sweet-water fish.
Cooperation and joint missions with research and education institutions, both in Greece and internationally.
The hosting of scientific conferences and seminars on sea matters, to the purpose of transmission of scientific knowledge on the marine environment and its protection.

The Hellenic Ministry of Culture has officially declared the building as a Historic Heritage Monument.
